Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for providing a comprehensive financial management, costing and advisory service, supporting the Head of Financial Management, Deputy Director of Finance and Budget Managers within the Trust, in accordance with agreed timescales and professional standards.

Finance Managers will provide internal and external stakeholders with financial management information in relation to the Trust’s monthly financial reporting requirements to the Board, NHSE and the Integrated Care Board (ICB); whilst assisting with the preparation and completion of Annual Accounts & PLICS returns ensuring accurate and timely completion in line with national timescales.

Within a framework established by the Head of Financial Management, Finance Managers will provide financial support in the preparation of business cases, assisting with business decisions whilst maintaining financial control.

The post holder will report to a designated Senior Financial Manager and will be expected to uphold and promote the Finance Department’s policies and principles throughout the course of their work. It is expected that the post holder will promote a holistic view of operational, clinical and financial issues to facilitate balanced, informed decision making, to support the development of the Trust.

The postholder will have some degree of autonomy to interpret policies, guidance and accounting standards and to apply specialist technical accounting knowledge to perform the role.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will provide a proactive management accounting service to a designated divisions, supporting budget holders in the effective management of financial resources. This includes producing timely and accurate monthly budget reports, analysing financial data, and investigating and explaining variances to ensure clear understanding of financial performance.

Working closely with budget holders, the post holder will provide financial advice and support, maintaining regular contact to highlight risks and opportunities, and assisting in the development of actions to ensure expenditure remains within agreed limits.

The role includes supporting the setting and monitoring of income and expenditure budgets, contributing to the annual budget-setting process, and making adjustments where required to reflect changes in activity.

The post holder will prepare regular financial forecasts to support planning and control, and assist in identifying and monitoring efficiency savings and cost improvement initiatives.

They will respond to routine and ad hoc financial queries, provide analysis to support decision-making, and contribute to the financial aspects of business cases.

The post holder will attend meetings with managers to present financial information and support discussions on performance. They will also support audit requirements as and where necessary.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Part Qualified CCAB/CIMA
  • Minimum of 2 years NHS finance experience
  • Strong financial knowledge and understanding
  • Strong IT and reporting skills

Desirable Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of PLICS and SLR
  • Experience in budgetary control and financial modelling
