Paddington Life Sciences is a thriving hub of life sciences businesses centred around St Mary’s Hospital. The hub drives collaboration across the NHS, technology, and pharmaceutical sectors to advance transnational research and improve healthcare innovation for patients, staff, and communities.

The Communications and Marketing Manager will plan, develop, deliver, and measure the impact of marketing communications for Paddington Life Sciences. The role also supports the development of a new membership organisation, Paddington Life Sciences Partners.

This role will help position Paddington Life Sciences, led by the Trust, as a key player in the UK’s growing life sciences sector, complementing London’s existing clusters, particularly Imperial College London’s White City campus.

The post contributes to wider change and development programmes, ensuring they reflect the needs and preferences of key audiences. This is a fixed-term role, available on a full-time or part-time basis.

Main Duties

  • Create widespread awareness and support for Paddington Life Sciences among key local, national, and international audiences.

  • Promote the vision of Paddington Life Sciences alongside the redevelopment of St Mary’s Hospital site.

  • Build the Paddington Life Sciences narrative using the Trust’s research and innovation capabilities through partnerships.

  • Keep key research partners and organisations informed and engaged in communications and marketing activities.

  • Write and design content for campaigns across online and offline channels, including:

    • Media coverage

    • Newsletters

    • Seminars, brochures, and leaflets

    • Directories and conference presentations

  • Liaise with freelance writers and designers as required.

  • Manage digital channels and online presence, including social media and website content, blogs, and optimisation.

  • Support the membership organisation by coordinating meetings, action plans, progress reports, and overseeing the membership database.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s and master’s degree or equivalent strategic communications/marketing experience.

  • Science degree is optimal.

Desirable:

  • Relevant professional qualifications.

Experience

Essential:

  • Communications and marketing experience in or with large, complex organisations, ideally in the health or charity sectors.

  • Strong project management experience.

  • Experience developing and implementing effective marketing strategies.

  • Proven ability to lead integrated communications projects, including budget management, procurement, and tendering.

  • Understanding of offline and online marketing tools and techniques.

  • Experience delivering or commissioning communications with measurable ROI at senior organisational levels.

Desirable:

  • Experience in NHS, healthcare, or health research organisations.

  • Science communication experience.

  • Involvement in brand development and management.

  • Account management experience (in-house or agency).

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Essential:

  • Strong copywriting and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and relevant software.

  • Ability to understand audiences and tailor communications accordingly.

  • Knowledge of social media and analytics tools.

Desirable:

  • Market research skills.

  • Content design experience using Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
