An exciting opportunity has arisen for a CCAB Qualified Accountant to join the finance team. The role is ideal for a driven, self-motivated individual with excellent planning, organisational, verbal, and written communication skills.

Main Duties

The Finance Manager will support the Head of Finance (HoF) in delivering all aspects of the service area’s financial management. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a team of accountants to provide day-to-day financial performance support and business partnering

  • Acting as a senior member of the Financial Management and service area teams

  • Demonstrating expert accounting and business knowledge, providing analytical support, and presenting highly complex financial information to clinical and non-clinical colleagues

  • Constructively challenging service area financial and business performance to ensure efficiency and effectiveness

  • Managing accurate and timely monthly performance reports for agreement with the HoF for board meetings and internal/external corporate reporting

  • Supporting reported performance with analytical reviews and influencing actions based on findings

The post holder must hold a recognised CCAB or equivalent qualification, have significant financial management experience, and be committed to continuous professional development.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

  • Qualified CCAB or CIMA

Experience (Essential):

  • Continuous financial management experience in one organisation

  • Staff management, including recruitment and effective team working

  • Costing services and business case planning

Experience (Desirable):

  • Previous healthcare experience

  • Completing an annual business planning cycle

Knowledge (Essential):

  • Up-to-date knowledge of NHS, organisational challenges, and developments

  • Costing and monitoring cost improvement programmes

  • Knowledge of financial controls

Knowledge (Desirable):

  • Understanding the links between operational and financial performance

Skills (Essential):

  • Staff management and ability to develop qualified and non-qualified accountants

  • Analyse complex information and determine appropriate action

  • Explain complex ideas clearly to non-finance staff

  • Excellent numerical, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build rapport with clinical and operational teams

Other (Essential):

  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities

  • Proactive and self-motivated professional attitude
