Job Summary

The Data Analyst will provide high-quality outputs from both existing and new data sources, including reporting, dashboards, and user-accessed tools. The role involves designing, developing, implementing, and supporting key intelligence tools such as Power BI.

The post holder will use descriptive and analytical statistical techniques, including Excel formulae, to influence managers and clinicians through narrative and graphic tools that explain the data and its implications.

This role also provides performance reporting to internal and external stakeholders, highlighting areas of recognition or concern, and ensures validation and reporting meet agreed timescales. The Data Analyst will support operational and corporate teams to maintain compliance with all key targets and collaborate with the Contracts Performance and CQUIN Team to share best practices.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Apply expert technical knowledge of information systems, NHS data definitions, clinical terminology, and coding systems.

  • Extract and manipulate complex data sets from the Business Intelligence warehouse using SQL at an advanced level.

  • Lead the development and delivery of timely and accurate performance reports for all organisational levels as directed by the Performance Manager.

  • Collaborate with managers and clinicians to ensure accurate data capture and reporting processes are in place.

  • Present performance information appropriate to the intended audience and support target delivery through action planning and improvement trajectories.

  • Ensure robust validation and reporting processes aligned with defined timescales.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Diploma-level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent

  • Desirable: Degree-level qualification (Level 5) in a relevant subject or equivalent

Technical Skills:

  • Essential: Excellent SQL skills for data management, interrogation, and analysis

  • Desirable: Knowledge of Python/R

Experience:

  • Essential:

    • Previous experience in the NHS

    • Working in a large, complex health or social care organisation

    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with significant experience

    • Data interpretation, reporting processes, and visualization (Excel/Power BI)

  • Desirable: Experience in a mental health and community NHS Trust

Additional Requirements

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check: Required due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
