About The Role
The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, a world-renowned cancer centre, is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer (Band 6). This role is critical in protecting the Trust’s digital infrastructure, sensitive patient data, and IT systems.
The successful candidate will manage, monitor, and optimise cybersecurity tools while ensuring compliance with NHS guidelines and best practices. This is a high-impact position requiring technical expertise, analytical skills, and strong communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and optimise cybersecurity tools, including antivirus software, SIEM systems, vulnerability scanners, threat protection services, and patch management solutions.
Conduct continuous monitoring to detect, analyse, and respond to cybersecurity incidents.
Manage the incident response process and report findings to mitigate operational risks.
Maintain firewall rules and adhere to ITIL change management processes.
Assess cybersecurity risks, ensure GDPR compliance, and maintain the Trust’s risk register.
Prepare detailed cybersecurity reports for senior management.
Collaborate with Digital Services teams to enhance system security.
Participate in audits and security projects aligned with strategic IT objectives.
Deliver training and awareness sessions to IT staff and end-users.
Respond flexibly to urgent cybersecurity incidents outside normal working hours.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
University degree in a related subject or equivalent experience in Cyber Security.
Working toward IT security certifications (ISC, ISACA, CompTIA, etc.).
Desirable:
IT Infrastructure certificates or ITIL – IT Service Management certification.
Experience
Essential:
Enterprise-scale IT infrastructure experience.
Experience with malware management, antivirus tools, Windows patching, firewalls, and security tools (Nessus, Pentera, LogPoint, penetration testing).
Patch and vulnerability remediation experience.
Desirable:
NHS experience.
Experience with Palo Alto firewalls.
Skills & Abilities
Essential:
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Excellent communication for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Adaptability to rapidly changing technologies.
Desirable:
Knowledge of Windows and Linux OS.
Creative problem-solving and innovative thinking.
Knowledge
Essential:
Security standards, best practices, and frameworks (e.g., MITRE).
Windows and Linux operating systems.
Threat intelligence, incident handling, and change management.
Desirable:
NHS/government cybersecurity systems knowledge (CareCerts, CSOC, DSPT, NCSC).
Additional Requirements
Participation in on-call rota with travel within 1 hour to the Trust.
DBS check required as per Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
