Role Overview

The Managing Editor – Academic Books will manage the complete editorial lifecycle of academic book projects, from manuscript development to final delivery. This role requires a strong understanding of academic publishing workflows, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end editorial workflow for academic book titles, ensuring timelines and quality benchmarks are consistently met
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining efficiency and accuracy across all stages of production
• Coordinate with internal teams, external freelancers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless execution
• Conduct thorough quality checks on editorial samples and deliverables to uphold publishing standards
• Identify, onboard, and manage a pool of qualified freelancers (copy editors, proofreaders, indexers, etc.)
• Provide editorial guidance and support to internal teams as needed
• Collaborate closely with customer editorial teams, ensuring alignment on expectations, schedules, and quality
• Proactively identify risks or delays and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track

Key Requirements

• Proven experience in academic publishing, preferably with a focus on books
• Strong knowledge of editorial processes, style guides, and quality standards
• Ability to manage multiple titles and deadlines effectively
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• Experience working with freelancers and external vendors
• High attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
